Where to stay in Lilongwe
From international-brand hotels in City Centre to lodges, guesthouses and airport stopovers — how to pick the right base for your trip.
Choosing a base
City Centre or Old Town?
Where you stay shapes your trip. City Centre suits business travellers and those wanting newer hotels, malls and quick access to ministries and embassies. Old Town is better for budget travellers and anyone who wants markets, cheaper food and a livelier street scene close by. Leafy Areas such as 43 and 10 hold many mid-range lodges and guesthouses. If you have an early flight, an airport-area stay saves a long morning transfer.

What to expect
Lilongwe's top hotels offer international standards, generators, secure parking and business facilities. Mid-range lodges and guesthouses are the sweet spot for most visitors — comfortable, personal, often with gardens and good kitchens. Budget guesthouses and backpacker options cluster in and around Old Town. Book ahead during conference periods and the dry-season peak (May–October).
