Higher education
Universities and colleges
Lilongwe is a growing centre for tertiary education. The Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) is based here, alongside campuses and colleges covering health sciences, business, technical and teacher training, plus several private universities. Many students from across the Central and Northern Regions study in the capital.
Schools
From primary to international
The city has government primary and secondary schools, a strong private-school sector, and international schools following British, American and IB-style curricula that serve diplomatic and expatriate families. Places at popular schools can be competitive, so families relocating usually apply well ahead of the school year.
